Rules

The regulation of the matches will be made according to “The Regulations of Kendo Shiai and
Shinpan”, except for the points specified hereafter.

In addition, Shinpan will apply the Provisional Match and Referee Rules as developed by ZNKR (“Provisional Match and Referee Rules in place until the COVID-19 pandemic is brought under control”).

Classes

Juniors

  • 12 thru 15 years of age, boys and girls
  • All fighters meet everyone else.
  • Winner is determined by: Most won matches, highest number of scored points is the winner. If still impossible to determine the winner, an extra match for 1 point shall be held.
  • Matches may end with hikiwake (draw)
  • Tsuki is not allowed
  • Match time is four minutes throughout the tournament

Ladies

  • 14 years of age, girls and ladies
  • Pools of three fighters or two if numbers do not add up.
  • Pool result is determined by most won matches, most points scored
  • First and second of the pool goes into the finals.
  • Match time is four minutes in the pools and five minutes in the finals.

Kyu

  • 16 years of age and older, men and women
  • Pools of three fighters or two if numbers do not add up.
  • Pool result is determined by most won matches, most points scored
  • First and second of the pool goes into the finals.
  • Match time is four minutes in the pools and five minutes in the finals.
  • Medallists will move into 1-2 dan class

1-2 Dan

  • 16 years of age and older, men and women
  • Pools of three fighters or two if numbers do not add up.
  • Pool result is determined by most won matches, most points scored
  • First and second of the pool goes into the finals.
  • Match time is four minutes in the pools and five minutes in the finals.
  • Medallists will move into 3 dan+ class

3 dan +

  • 16 years of age and older, men and women
  • Pools of three fighters or two if numbers do not add up.
  • Pool result is determined by most won matches, most points scored
  • First and second of the pool goes into the finals.
  • Match time is four minutes in the pools and five minutes in the finals.

Team shiai

  • 16 years of age and older, men and women
  • Kachinuki-system
    • Team order is fixed and in grade order, lowest grade first and lowest age goes first.
    • The winner of an individual match stays on for the next match.
    • In case of hikiwake both fighters go out.
    • In case of hikiwake between both Taisho there will be encho.
    • When one team are out of fighters the other team are the winners.
