Rules
The regulation of the matches will be made according to “The Regulations of Kendo Shiai and
Shinpan”, except for the points specified hereafter.
In addition, Shinpan will apply the Provisional Match and Referee Rules as developed by ZNKR (“Provisional Match and Referee Rules in place until the COVID-19 pandemic is brought under control”).
As an exception to the provisional rules above, masks are not required at any point of the competition. However, we urge everyone to respectfully stay away should they show any sign of flu/corona-like symptoms.

How to determine pool result
- Highest number of won matches
- Highest number of points scored
- Highest number of Hikiwake
If still undecided there will be a Ippon-shobu rematch.
Classes
Juniors
- 12 thru 15 years of age, boys and girls
- Pools of 5 fighters where everyone meet
- First and second of the pool goes into the finals
- Match time is three minutes throughout the tournament
- Tsuki is not allowed
Ladies
- 16 years of age, girls and ladies
- Pools of three fighters or two if numbers do not add up.
- First and second of the pool goes into the finals.
- Match time is four minutes in the pools and four minutes in the finals.
Kyu
- 16 years of age and older, men and women
- Pools of three fighters or two if numbers do not add up.
- First and second of the pool goes into the finals.
- Match time is three minutes in the pools and four minutes in the finals.
- Medalists will move into 1-2 dan class
1-2 Dan
- 16 years of age and older, men and women
- Pools of three fighters or two if numbers do not add up.
- First and second of the pool goes into the finals.
- Match time is four minutes in the pools and five minutes in the finals.
- Medalists will move into 3 dan+ class
3 dan +
- 16 years of age and older, men and women
- Pools of three fighters or two if numbers do not add up.
- First and second of the pool goes into the finals.
- Match time is four minutes in the pools and five minutes in the finals.
Team shiai
The exact team composition as well as the drawing will be arranged on the day of the individual competition. We will match any free agents with incomplete teams.
- 16 years of age and older, men and women
- Kachinuki-system
- Team order is fixed and can not be changed between matches.
- The winner of an individual match stays on for the next match.
- In case of hikiwake both fighters go out.
- In case of hikiwake between both Taisho there will be encho directly of that match.
- When one team is out of fighters the other team are the winners.
- Direct elimination (No pools)
- Match time is four minutes
